4th U.S. Army Air Force (AAF) Distinctive Insignia (DI), World War II Issue, unissued

The 4th AAF was formed at March Field, California in 1940 to provide air defense for the Southeastern portion of the United States and the Lower Midwest regions. After 1943, its primary mission was to train combat replacements for deployment overseas in other AAF units.

Manufactured by N.S. Meyer in New York City, one of the premier U.S. Army insignia manufacturers. It is attached to its original tag-paper insignia card as shipped to the War Department.
