U.S. Army 37th Infantry Division Distinctive Insignia (DI), World War II Issue

The 37th Infantry Division was a unit of the United States Army in World War I and World War II. It was a National Guard division from Ohio, nicknamed the "Buckeye Division".

During WWII, the 37th Division first arrived in the Pacific Theatre on the Fiji Islands in June 1942. The division would engage in extensive jungle combat against Japanese forces across the Solomon Islands during the Battle of Munda Point (July-August 1943) and the Bougainville Campaign (November 1944).

The 37th Division also engaged in combat operations during the re-capture of Manila and finally Luzon in the Philippines (March 1945). Following the Japanese surrender on September 2, 1945, the 37th Division returned to the United States in November 1945.
