A haversack like the one in the photograph was issued to an American soldier to hold his daily ration and personal items and worn on a leather shoulder strap across his chest.
Many are stamped U.S. on the top flap while others have additional unit markings.
Inside, the bags were stamped 'Rock Island Arsenal 1905', though it may not be visible any longer.

The haversacks are sold without a shoulder strap of any kind.

Grade II $55.00: Good condition overall, the U.S. letters may not be visible or may have been painted over by various State Militia markings following the bag's original time in Federal service.
